About SCENE

The Southeastern Coalition for Engagement and Exchange in Nanotechnology Education (SCENE) is a regional Louis Stokes Center for Excellence in Broadening Participation for innovative STEM learning. In addition to CNEU at Penn State, the core institutions in SCENE are Norfolk State University and Tidewater Community College. The partnering institutes in SCENE are the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Langley Research Center, the Jefferson National Research Laboratory Applied Research Center, and the Eastern Virginia Medical School.

SCENE utilizes nanotechnology and its many applications as a conduit for engaging and inspiring students. SCENE sponsors student-centered research and training activities to achieve cohorts of students from under-served populations who are prepared and competitive for opportunities in advanced STEM environments. SCENE is expanding beyond its initial partnerships in the south-eastern part of the U.S. by reaching out to additional research laboratories, historically black colleges and universities, community colleges, and industry across the entire country.
